This is an Ether Map of soundscape compositions based on materials gathered from standout sites of electromagnetic sonic activity in the North East of Scotland. The compositions are created using sounds derived from the electrical signals of radio transmitter masts, abandoned Cold War facilities, electricity substations, radar stations, pylons, hydrodams, thunder storms, the aurora borealis, bioelectric plants and trees, and miscellaneous electrical infrastructure.

Project Overview
Electrosferics is an ongoing series of soundscape compositions that incorporate the sounds and themes of electromagnetic activity in the North East of Scotland, using sonic materials derived from field recordings of electrical infrastructure and electromagnetic natural and supernatural phenomena.
The compositions use sounds derived from two main sources: electrical infrastructure (substations, pylons, hydrodams, wind turbines, transmitter masts, abandoned Cold War facilities, etc.); and natural phenomena or "sferics" (storms, aurora, living organisms). The sounds are recorded via specially adapted wide-band and VLF radio receivers and a galvanometer connected to digital recording devices, then adapted to compositional elaborations and processing techniques through various software applications.
The ultimate aim of these endeavours is to gain access to the superspectrum through the conduits of electromagnetic activity and to capture audible traces of ethereal and paranormal sonic events at the extreme edges of material reality.
